I started my own Christian Blog on LiveJournal, but I could not find a Christian community who would read it on there. So the next few blogs that I write will have “(past)” in the title, to indicate that they were written a while ago.
This next one is from last January.
Why is it that when we go to Church, we pray?
Why do we only pray at home when we go to bed, or when we say grace around the dinner table?
Why is it that we don’t pray in restaurants, or bend our head for a moment, hands folded, in the workplace? The workplace, in my opinion, is one of the times when we need God the most. It’s stressful, it’s harrying, and, for a lot of people, it’s not very enjoyable.
So, why is it that we do not pray more often outside of Church?
I think that it’s because we are all a little scared. There are so many lawsuits and debates in this age about prayer in schools, prayer in public places, prayer anywhere outside of a place a worship.
So, I’m going to tell you something. Something that we don’t normally here every day.
It is okay to be scared.
God still hears you. Even if you just bow your head, and say a silent prayer to God, He still hears you.
If one of your co-workers asks you what you’re doing, don’t be ashamed. Be proud of your faith! You are a follower of Jesus! He died for you. Don’t be ashamed of Him.
Prayer in every day life should not be something to be hidden away and stuffed in the back of a closet somewhere, kept in a dusty box. You should rejoice and give yourself to God every single day of your life! Do not be embarrassed by wanting to worship God.
God understands. He truly, deeply understands each and every one of us. He knows our struggle. He knows what is going on in the world. After all, He was the one who made it. He understands that it is difficult and out of the norm to pray to Him outside of Church or of the home.
So, I have a dare for you. Next time you pray to God, do not do it at Church. Do not do it at home. I dare you to pray to God somewhere else. Somewhere you normally wouldn’t. Even if it is a silent prayer to God, saying, “Hey, God, what’s up? I just wanted to tell you I love you, and I know you love me, too,” that is fine. But I want you to feel the difference in prayer outside of where you normally worship.
Does it feel risky? Are you afraid that someone is going to catch you, and start a confrontation? If you bow your head and fold your hands, are you scared someone will recognize what it is you’re doing? Do you feel silly?
Then, I want you to ask yourself this question:
Why?
Why do you feel that way? Do you think that what you just did is wrong? Do you feel like God didn’t hear you because you’re not in a place of worship?
Come on! Of course He heard you! HE IS GOD. He knows and sees EVERYTHING.
The point I am trying to make is this:
Just because you are not at home or at Church does not mean you cannot pray to God. He is there with you, every step of the way. He is always there to hear you, especially when you need Him the most. Don’t shut Him out just because you are out of your element. That may be when you need Him the most.
Think about it.
God is with you.
