Hello All,
I am new to all this, I am a believer, but I am looking for some serious help. I have a lot of things going on with my life right now. To name some, I have a serious heart defect, one of my nieces does also. Also I having problems getting into the word like I use to. I honestly don’t know where to start. I tried to read Proverbs and succeed but I stopped after that. I read a daily devotional at least three times a day, but honestly I don’t get nothing out of it. I need help because I am going through a lot of trials right now, and I know God is walking me through it all, but at times I feel all alone. If you could please give me an idea on where I should start, that would be wonderful. Thank You. God Bless
Jimmy

before you read the bible pray to the holy sprit that you may understand what you are reading in the way that God wants you to understand. for me as i am reading, don’t take it as you are reading a book, but take it as Jesus himself is right there with you teaching you and helping you. and ask for wisdom to understand, because once you have wisdom you can understand what God wants from you and how to truly love. reading other books are ok but know for yourself and don’t forget that our teacher is the word and what better way to learn then to read his word. remember to keep the word in your heart so you wont get confused. and if you do get confused, pray for understanding on that certain passage. he wants you to understand just keep seeking him everyday. have a good day friend of Christ
Thank You both.
It means a lot to me to know that I am not alone in this field, I will try and find those books, and most diff. I will slow my reading down. Thank you again. God Bless
Jimmy,
I can relate to your Bible studying situation. I’ve felt like God’s Word wasn’t really speaking to me. It’s not hard to get lost in all of the chapters and verses.
Here are a few things that really helped me:
1.) Take your time. I used to see how many scriptures I could read in one sitting…but if I don’t get anything out of it, what’s the point? Now sometimes, I’ll take one verse and ponder over it all day…until I get the revelation of what it means for me. After all, one scripture applied to my life is better than a thousand that I read and forgot.
2.) Read about Jesus. He is the cornerstone of the Bible. Go through the Gospels…particularly John. A better understanding of the Messiah will make the rest of the Bible clearer.
3.) Get a good commentary. I personally like “The MacArthur Bible Commentary” by John MacArthur. It deals with every verse of the Bible.
4.) Read other Christian books. This is something that I’ve recently gotten into and it’s been incredibly beneficial. I am currently reading ”
What Every Christian Ought to Know” by Adrian Rogers…great book! These books should NOT replace reading the Bible, but they really open up your mind and encourage more Bible studying.
I’ve already been in prayer for you and your niece. Hang in there Jimmy! I heard somewhere that great things happen when we don’t give up (Galatians 6:9)!
Hi Jimmy
I am new as well. A few months ago I believe God was walking me through the hardest trials in my life so far. I was having the same problem getting into the word and getting anything out of it. To me it was too complex to read through it and grab what God was trying to convey to me so badly. I felt really lost. I had a book given to me around that time called “Blue like Jazz” by Donald Miller. Now I don’t know if you have ever read that but it is a really awesome book. After that book I read some of his others “Searching for God Knows what” and “A Million Miles in a Thousand Years”. I really got a lot out of his books and it provoked me to read the bible every day. Maybe this could help you, it helped me in my time of need. Jimmy, I’ll be praying for you and your niece.
