~ The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms; and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee ~

~ Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it ~

Oh, LORD, how beautiful You are! For here we observe protection and comfort. Here we observe power and faithfulness. Here we observe safety and hope. ~ Oh, LORD, our Lord how excellent is your name in all the earth! ~

Our eternal God is our refuge, our dwelling place. It is into His arms we may flee when we are overwhelmed with sorrow or fear. At the same time, He is preparing an eternal home for us where we will go to when our last breathe on earth is taken. ~ Whither shall I go from thy Spirit? Or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there; if I make my bed in Sheol, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.~ His everlasting arms are underneath us and we shall never fall so much that God’s enfolding arms will lose us.

All of the while that we are safe in the refuge of God, He is driving out the enemy so that the enemy or whatever the enemy is using against us will not possess us. Though evil may come against us or we may become entangled in sin, God is at work driving it away from us. It will never posses us. If need be, for a season, God may allow us to struggle against sin or evil. However, He knows the perfect way to set us free. And, He will set us free!

Our God is a faithful God. Oh, that we would come to trust Him ultimately with our lives! Oh, that we would be persuaded that He is trustworthy! For it is when we place ourselves into His nail-pierced hands that He will work on our behalf. Our part is to learn to trust Him. His part is to work on our behalf. And while we trust Him, He will be faithful to thrust out the enemy and to be that eternal refuge for us.
