Carl’s response is well-versed. I, for the past 12 years, have seen some sort of psychiatrist. I have been on numerous “medically-safe” drugs for a severe injury. Honestly, looking over the 11 years I was medicated, I would say that I would have healed more quickly without any medication.
Kayla, it says in Mark 5-26, “And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse.” This is certainly the very situation I found myself in, dear. Moreover Kayla, physicians/ psychiatrists are not trained to heal rather to get one hooked so they may profit.
Another suggestion is for you to see a Christian psychologist/ counselor not a psychiatrist. The difference is a psychologist or counselor you will get to talk with. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor, and will just give you drugs.
You are a 20-year-old woman, Kayla. Attention deficit drugs are really just legal crack or a tranquillizer. In other words, their (the medical industry’s) did not, in any way, shape or form, bring me closer to our Lord. In fact, I began to question all that the Bible has to offer. I fervently study my beautiful Bible, now, and pray. I have never been such a whole person.
Be well with Christ.
my thing is I have ADHD and i am 20, my parents want me to see a specialist about it i told them the only way I would even consider it is if they had a religious background…. my parents hated that idea, so know I am debating really bad about even going!!!!
I understand Kayla. It’s not wrong to see a specialist…someone who is an expert on what you are going through. If you can find a Christian specialist…great! If not, I don’t think it would be wrong to see the specialist. I’m reminded about the woman with the blood disease for twelve years. The Bible says that she spent all she had on physicians but had gotten worse. But she heard that Jesus would be in the crowd and she new that deliverance was found in him. So she pushed her away through the crowd and touch his garment. The Bible says that she was healed. Jesus turned to her and said “thy faith has made thee whole.” Mark 5:25-34
So see specialists if you think they can help…that’s ok. I’ve been to plenty of doctors for various things in my life. I believe that God uses medical science to deliver us too. Whether deliverance comes through prayer, doctors, or both…it ultimately goes back to our faith in Christ. That’s what I believe!
Great question Kayla!! I don’t know where the Bible talks about psychiatrist specifically. It’s a good idea to get counsel or advice, but we have to be careful where we get it. Personally, if I have issues that I need advice on, I visit my pastor or some other believer. Why? Well, they can approach my situation using God’s Word. I’ve discovered that true deliverance and freedom are found there (John 8:31-32).
Talking to a psychiatrist may make you feel better, but if he doesn’t know the Bible, how can he really help you? I don’t know where I would be if not for Godly counseling. We all need it sometimes!
